Why no household can do without a voice assistant in the future

They are now everywhere: Voice assistants have long since conquered thousands of household appliances from their smartphones – even some that one would not trust so much intelligence. We explain why voice control will change our everyday life forever in the future and turn well-known processes completely upside down.

Advantages of voice control at a glance

In general, a voice assistant gives users more convenience. For physically handicapped people, they also mean more self-determination in everyday life. Even children who cannot read and write are usually able to use voice commands – for example, to play an audiobook.

But it is not only their suitability for all age groups that make voice assistants so popular, their enormous range of functions is also impressive. Making coffee, starting the washing machine, or starting the robotic lawnmower? No problem at all for Alexa and her “colleagues”.

Voice-based housekeeping is characterized by three particularly pleasant aspects:

Convenience: Thanks to voice control, nobody will have to get up from the sofa to switch on the lights or the television in the future. Household cleaning is also carried out on-demand using compatible household robots – without users having to get their fingers dirty.

Security: window and door sensors, as well as motion detectors, can be switched on when leaving. The technology does not constantly sound the alarm when life is raging at home, but reliably monitors the smart home when the residents are absent.

Energy consumption: The energy consumption of many smart devices can be viewed in the system manufacturer’s app. Anyone using an eNet SMART HOME can also check the consumption of integrated devices via eNet wireless energy sensors from Gira and JUNG and display it using the eNet server visualization.

What can voice control already do today?

It all started in Germany with a few pre-installed functions. For example, owners of an iPhone could ask Siri certain questions to discover additional functions and answers known as Easter Eggs. When Amazon’s Alexa and the Google Assistant were added, they too were provided with smartphone-typical functions. Although both voice assistants were installed on smart speakers from the start, they initially mainly managed appointments and shopping lists or played music on request.

Today, their range of functions includes the voice-based operation of all types of household and garden tools. Including:

  • Lamps and lighting systems.
  • WiFi thermostats, underfloor heating, and other heating solutions.
  • Kitchen appliances from the coffee machine to the dishwasher and the refrigerator.
  • Vacuum, mop, and window cleaning robots, as well as washing machines.
  • Privacy and sun protection elements.
  • Air conditioners and fans.
  • Alarm systems, motion detectors, sirens, surveillance cameras, or smoke detectors.
  • Robotic lawnmowers, garden lighting, or garden watering.
  • Cars (e.g. in models from BMW, Ford, or Tesla)

On request, voice assistants can even take care of the garden maintenance.

Anyone who accesses the components of a system when setting up a smart home has the advantage that they can control any number of them together. If the sun shines strongly through the window and warms the room noticeably, a voice command is sufficient to turn down the thermostats, switch off unnecessary lamps and adjust the blinds.

But that’s not all: scenes or if-then rules can also be used to ensure safety. For example, when the command “Alexa, activate the alarm system” ensures that all motion detectors in the interior are switched on, which in turn trigger a surveillance camera if necessary.

Even locking all front doors while deactivating the lighting is possible with just one command in some smart homes when going to sleep in the evening.

Voice assistants are getting to know our habits more and more

If you use Alexa regularly, it automatically adapts to you. If the voice assistant is then asked to “Alexa, play music”, she responds with “Here is a radio station that you might like.” Then she plays songs that are similar to the ones previously called up.

Thanks to a cloud connection, modern language assistants not only recognize the habits of their owners but also learn from the behavior of many other users. This enables them to better assign voice commands or questions to the correct context and expand their knowledge. When we carried out tests with the first smart loudspeakers in 2017, verbal misunderstandings often arose. Some questions were only answered correctly with luck. Today there is hardly a challenge that voice assistants have not yet mastered.

These skills will make voice assistants indispensable in the future

Voice assistants still have a few small weaknesses that have not yet been resolved. This includes, For example, a cup has to be manually placed under the coffee machine before it can be started verbally. Anyone who forgets this preparation in the evening will experience an annoying surprise in the morning. Voice assistants cannot load or empty dishwashers or washing machines, but only start or stop them. With most cleaning robots, the dirt collector also has to be emptied by hand regularly. Because only very few have brought a suction station with them so far.

However, we are confident that a voice-based solution will soon be available for these challenges as well. Then nothing stands in the way of perfect comfort.

The future is closer than you think. Anyone who has already turned their house into a fully functional smart home should rely on the connection to a voice assistant. The more living areas that are covered by smart technology, the better. We recommend installing a professional smart home.

Conclusion

The development of Voice Assistants is happening very fast nowadays. People in India use Android smartphones and keep searching for Mera naam kya hai. On this, he gets to hear his name in response. I came across this topic when I was doing keyword research for my website.  Many articles have been written on the Hindi website on these topics.
